Making an MP3/FLV Player with Flash MX 2004 and JavaScript

In this tutorial, S.M.H. Qadri shows us how to design an application interface with Flash MX 2004, how to add action script to the Flash interface, and how to write the JavaScripts and HTML files necessary for handling Flash.

    Support file available here.

In this tutorial, we will learn how we can make an MP3/FLV Player with Flash MX 2004. Before we start, we should check that we have everything we need to complete this tutorial.

    Requirements for this article:

To complete this tutorial, you should have the following:

    System Requirements:

    • Win 98 or later. (Win 2000 or Win XP is recommended for better results)
    • Flash MX 2004 / Flash MX 2004 Pro

NOTE: If you don’t have Flash MX 2004 Professional, then you can download a 30 days trial version from http://www.macromedia.com/software/flash/

    • Some MP3/FLV files (On your hard drive or on CD Rom)
    • Any Internet browser, but Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher is recommended.

    Skill level:

Apart from the above requirements, you should have basic knowledge of Action script and components of Flash MX 2004 Professional. But if you are new to Flash or Action script, then you can still go through this tutorial easily, since I will be briefing you about each step thoroughly.

Note: Before starting, I would suggest that you make a separate folder on your hard drive especially for this tutorial. (e.g. MyMP3_FLVPlayer)

In this tutorial, we will learn a handsome use of Flash MX 2004’s version 2 components and JavaScripting. Let’s divide the tutorial into the following parts:

    • Designing an application interface with Flash MX 2004
    • Adding Action script to our Flash interface
    • Writing the JavaScripts and HTML files necessary for handling Flash.
