Using Function: The Beginner's Nightmare - Conclusion
(Page 5 of 5 )

Based on my personal experience in learning Actionscript language I figured out that there were simple things to do and to remember, but the hard work to accomplish some skilled task. Knowledge is precious. If you try it and learn more things that 'seems to be' complicated to learn, you will save yourself from hard work and replace it with elegance.

If you are a freelancer or hobbyist, run just in one timeline with simple objects and usual easy-to-understand statements, your work will hardly impress anyone. When you write your first function you will eager for more. You will need to figure out variable scope, you will start to organize your code in different way; you will pay more attention to objects, properties and methods. Then you will decide to use your very own custom object. Your code will shrink but will be more effective and powerful, and you will eventually enjoy what you are doing.

Functions are not the most important part of the code. However, if you never write one and you have trouble accomplishing your programming task, just write your first function. At this point, or somewhere around, you will start attaining a higher level of understanding and ability..
