Java is arguably the hottest programming language today. It can be used cross platform to build complete applications, applets and even web pages. In this 10 part series of articles, Chris will explain what Java is, and also provide working examples, clearly describing the Java language syntax.Over the next ten or so articles, I am going to give everyone a detailed briefing of Java: from its history to its language syntax to some nifty example applications.

In this first article, I will talk about the history of Java and its likeliness to other object orientated languages, such as C++.
