Building Warning and Error Boxes with the Ext JS Library

Introduction

In the last few months, a brand new player has entered the arena of the numerous third-party JavaScript frameworks available on the Web. Its popularity has been growing with web developers. I'm talking about the Ext JS library, definitely a package that can help you to develop professional user interfaces within minutes.

Of course, due to the numerous features offered by this framework, it's practically impossible to cover all of its facets completely by way of a bunch of tutorials. However, my intention here is to specifically explore the library's capabilities for building different kinds of message boxes.

Therefore, if you're a web developer who needs to include professional-looking message windows into the existing front-ends of your own web sites, then this series of articles might be what you're looking for.

Now that you've been introduced to the subject of this series, I believe this is an appropriate moment to summarize quickly the topics that I discussed in the last episode. As you'll possibly recall, in that specific article, I demonstrated how to take advantage of the functionality provided by the Ext JS library to build a couple of informative boxes.

First, I built a basic -- yet appealing -- info window, and then created a question box. In both cases, the visual appearance of these boxes was pretty similar, even though they were conceived to perform different tasks.

Well, having already reviewed the contents of the preceding tutorial, it's time to focus on the topics that will be treated in the current one. Since the Ext JS package supports building four different kinds of informative boxes, and the first two were already covered, in this final tutorial I'm going to show you how to create a couple of warning and error windows. These can be used, for instance, as part of an integral user data validation system.

Are you ready to tackle the last chapter of this educational journey? Let's get started!
