JavaScript Objects: Dates - The GetMonth() Method
(Page 5 of 5 )
This method is used to...get the month. I know, it's complicated. Its use is similar to our previous two methods:
<html>
<body>
<script type="text/javascript">
var when = new Date()
document.write("Today is this month of the year: <br />")
document.write(when.getMonth())
</script>
</body>
</html>
Here is the result:
Today is this month of the year:
9
Note that again, January starts as the month 0, so even though October is really the tenth month, Javascript sees it as the ninth.
Again, here is code to translate the number to a word:
<html>
<body>
<script type="text/javascript">
var when=new Date()
var what_month=new Array(12)
what_month[0]="January"
what_month[1]="February"
what_month[2]="March"
what_month[3]="April"
what_month[4]="May"
what_month[5]="June"
what_month[6]="July"
what_month[7]="August"
what_month[8]="September"
what_month[9]="October"
what_month[10]="November"
what_month[11]="December"
document.write("This is " + what_month[when.getMonth()])
</script>
</body>
</html>
The extraordinary result:
This is October
And there you have it folks: another fine episode. Just us next time as we try to conquer more of the mountainous amounts of methods that JavaScript has to offer.
Till then...
