In our last article we left off with the OnKeyUp function, which is triggered when a user releases a key on the keyboard. We will continue discussing the various JavaScript events in this article, and hopefully finish them in the next tutorial. So grab yourself some coffee and let’s get to work.
OnLoad and OnMouse JavaScript Events - OnMouseUp (Page 6 of 6 )
The last of the Mouse Events is OnMouseUp, which is triggered when a user’s mouse button is released. Here is a sample:
<html>
<head>
<script type="text/javascript">
function donttouch(e)
{
var targ
if (!e) var e = window.event
if (e.target) targ = e.target
else if (e.srcElement) targ = e.srcElement
if (targ.nodeType == 3)
targ = targ.parentNode
var tname
tname=targ.tagName
alert("I said don't click my " + tname + " element.")
}
</script>
</head>
<body onmouseup="donttouch(event)">
<h1>Don't click me!</h1>
<p>Don't click me either!</p>
</body>
</html>
In the above code, if the user clicks on the H1 header Don’t Click Me, a pop-up appears berating them. Also, if they click on the Paragraph Don’t Click Me Either, they get yelled at once more. Finally, if they click in the body of the page, the pop-up will appear again, telling them “I said don’t click my body element.”
That’s it for this tutorial; I hope you enjoyed it. In our next tutorial, we will complete our series on JavaScript events. Hope to see you there.
Till then…
