Retrieving Hardware Information using Advanced JavaScript with Internet Explorer - How to dig out a computer's processor information using JavaScript
(Page 2 of 5 )
Now, let us try to develop a simple script (JavaScript) which shows the technique for retrieving a list of processors and their information related to a computer. The entire code for the sample is as follows:
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN">
<html>
<head>
<title></title>
<meta name="GENERATOR" content="Microsoft Visual Studio .NET
7.1">
<meta name="vs_targetSchema" content=
"http://schemas.microsoft.com/intellisense/ie5">
<script id="clientEventHandlersJS" language="javascript">
<!--
function Button1_onclick() {
var locator = new ActiveXObject ("WbemScripting.SWbemLocator");
var service = locator.ConnectServer(".");
var properties = service.ExecQuery("SELECT * FROM Win32_Processor");
var e = new Enumerator (properties);
document.write("<table border=1>");
dispHeading();
for (;!e.atEnd();e.moveNext ())
{
var p = e.item ();
document.write("<tr>");
document.write("<td>" + p.Availability + "</td>");
document.write("<td>" + p.Caption + "</td>");
document.write("<td>" + p.CpuStatus + "</td>");
document.write("<td>" + p.CurrentClockSpeed + "</td>");
document.write("<td>" + p.DeviceID + "</td>");
document.write("<td>" + p.Level + "</td>");
document.write("<td>" + p.Name + "</td>");
document.write("<td>" + p.ProcessorId + "</td>");
document.write("<td>" + p.ProcessorType + "</td>");
document.write("<td>" + p.SystemName + "</td>");
document.write("</tr>");
}
document.write("</table>");
}
function dispHeading()
{
document.write("<thead>");
document.write("<td>Availability</td>");
document.write("<td>Caption</td>");
document.write("<td>CpuStatus</td>");
document.write("<td>CurrentClockSpeed</td>");
document.write("<td>DeviceID</td>");
document.write("<td>Level</td>");
document.write("<td>Name</td>");
document.write("<td>ProcessorId</td>");
document.write("<td>ProcessorType</td>");
document.write("<td>SystemName</td>");
document.write("</thead>");
}
//-->
</script>
</head>
<body>
<INPUT id="Button1" type="button" value="Button"
name="Button1" language="javascript" onclick="return Button1_onclick()">
</body>
</html>
The above sample would automatically list all processors belonging to a computer. It mainly lists the Device ID, name, processor ID, caption, status and other relative properties. In fact, it has several other properties. Just to keep this sample simple, I listed only the ones most used. To retrieve this information, I used a built-in class, “Win32_Processor.”
The “for” loop I used in the above code iterates for every processor present in the system and finally retrieves only the properties of that processor. The above sample even works for a multi-processor system.
I suggest you refer to MSDN if the values returned by the above program confuse you.
