    Dreamweaver MX 2004: Your Connection to the Internet - Installing and Using Internet Information Services

    Although Internet Information Server (IIS) 5.0 ships with Windows 2000 Professional, it is not installed by default. Follow these steps to install and configure IIS for your development machine. By the end of this project, you will have nstalled Internet Information Services on your development computer

    Step by Step
    1. Select Start | Settings | Control Panel from Windows.

    2. In the Control Panel, double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.

    3. Select Add/Remove Windows Components.

    4. After a brief pause, the Windows Component Wizard will appear. Check the box next to Internet Information Services (IIS) and click Next.

    5. You may be prompted for your Windows 2000, XP, or 2003 Server CD.

    6. Windows will keep you posted as to its progress in copying the IIS files to your computer.

    7. When finished, you will see the following screen indicating a successful installation of IIS:

    8. Close the Windows Component Wizard, but leave the Control Panel open. In the Control Panel, double-click the Administrative Tools icon.

    9. Double-click Computer Management.

    10. Click the plus (+) sign next to Services And Applications and then the plus sign next to Internet Information Services. You will be presented with the components of your IIS installation. Using these, you can configure your server to respond the way you want it to.

    There are three parts to the IIS installation:

    • The default FTP site

    • The default Web site

    • The default SMTP virtual server
