Today we are going to take a look at Captivate by Macromedia. With Captivate, you can create interactive simulations and software demonstrations. If you have a need to create a product demonstration, some robust documentation, or even interactive training demos then Captivate may be just the tool you need.
Macromedia Captivate Review - But Captivate is more than that (Page 2 of 5 )
The software’s capabilities do not stop there. Captivate also includes a full suite of editing tools that allow you to fully customize the resulting movie. You can add effects, insert slides, edit or re-record narration and background music. You can edit or completely change the mouse movements on the screen. And that just brushes the surface.
The above screenshot is one of the “interactive slides” from a Captivate project. As you can see, it shows a web browser displaying a web page. Of interest to us here are the three goodies that Captivate has let us edit. A blue frame appears around the “New” button, a red box fades into view, telling the viewer to “Click the New button,” and then the mouse sweeps down and clicks the button.
Now, all of this could be changed. You could choose NOT to highlight the New button, or to highlight differently. The caption box is not mandatory, nor does it need to look like that. And no, you don’t even have to show the mouse on the screen.
You might be saying to yourself, how is it that I know what order things are going to be executed on the screen?
