Macromedia Captivate Review - Delving deeper
(Page 3 of 5 )
Even though Captivate works off the concept of “slides,” do not confuse this as just another slide presentation software. Captivate creates a full-motion movie, depending on what actions you give it to show. Each slide is capable of many actions, performed in a certain order or at the same time.

The above screenshot shows a small region of the Captivate window called the Timeline. This particular timeline belongs to the slide we saw on the previous page. Now, if you take a look you will see that the numbers across the top are in increments of seconds, and that this slide is approximately 3.8 seconds long. You also see that there is some mouse movement, a highlight action, and a caption box. There is even some narration attached to this slide.
The really cool thing about the timeline, is you can modify not only the length of the slide, but the length of the content within the side along with when it starts and stops.
The slide above, immediately draws the blue highlight box around the “New” button on the screen. Almost a second later, the caption fades in, that says “Click the new button”. The blue highlight box fades out, leaving the caption on the screen. Two seconds into the slide, the mouse begins to move towards the “New” button. When it reaches the button, the caption fades out and the mouse CLICKS.
On top of all of this, you will see that the narration starts at the beginning of the slide and runs for 2.6 seconds. Speaking of the audio, we should take a look at how it works too.
