The importance of your WordPress siteís comments section cannot be understated. Luckily, there are tons of WordPress plugins on the market that can help you get the most out of your comments section. Here are some more that are worth considering.

Disqus Comment System

The creators of Disqus Comment System deserve some credit for at least slapping a clever name onto their WordPress plugin.  Pronounced ďdiscuss,Ē it gives site owners a nice set of tools for managing their comment systems.  Disqus adds to a siteís potential exposure by making comments indexable by search engines.  Even if you have a ton of comments already on your site, they will be supported once the plugin is installed.  A little peace of mind is thrown in too via Disqusí automatic backup of comments, just in case something bad may happen.

Comments are viewable in a threaded format for a more logical display to visitors.  To keep visitors informed, email notifications are included in the Disqus package too.  Spam filtering, blacklists, and whitelists help to keep the comments section free of unwanted content to ensure that legitimate conversations and interactions are not interrupted.  Users can also subscribe to content and have RSS options at their disposal to avoid having to miss any important updates.  If you are looking for a comments plugin to give your site some well-rounded support, you canít go wrong with Disqus.

Subscribe to Comments Reloaded

You can always go back to a site where you left comments to see if someone responded to your thoughts, but that is not the most efficient way of doing things.  This is especially true when plugins like Subscribe to Comments Reloaded exist.  As its name may suggest, Subscribe to Comments Reloaded gives site visitors the option to register to receive email notifications of when someone comments on what they have posted.  With the plugin in place, thereís no longer a need to constantly check back on a site, as email notifications will let you know of any subsequent actions.

One of the pluginís strong points is the way in which you can customize its settings to fit your needs.  If a certain post is not of the utmost importance, you can unsubscribe from any notifications pertaining to it.  Of course, thereís also the option to suspend notifications altogether.  Administrators can insert their own custom messages to visitors for a personal touch with regards to the subscription process.

CommentLuv

CommentLuv is a powerful WordPress plugin that drives interaction between visitors and promotes a sense of community.  The pluginís functionality is simple overall, as it basically places a link at the end of a personís comment.  Not just any link is inserted, however, as the link leads to the personís last blog post.  By having such links in place, visitors will have an extra incentive to comment on your posts.  This is great for networking and opens up the door to several more interesting topics for you and your readers to discover.

CommentLuv is also useful for getting visitors to register to your site.  Registering offers some extra advantages, such as dofollow links and the ability to choose from amongst any of the visitorís last ten posts to insert after comments.  Instead of having a plain, ordinary comments section, your visitors will now be able to enjoy enhanced conversations and your site will be seen as a place that offers access to even more content than before.

Comment Toolbar

Comment Toolbar gives some nice functionality to visitors when they want to leave comments.  In short, this WordPress plugin allows you to insert up to six functional buttons at the end of each comment.  Among the buttons included are bold, italic, quote, insert a link, and more.  With the added functionality, visitors will have more control over what they post.  The enriched comments should help to create more interaction amongst visitors and give your site more of a community feeling.

You can tweak the pluginís settings in a variety of ways to get the optimum configuration for your site.  For instance, you can select the toolbarís alignment, where you want the buttons to appear, the visual appearance of the buttons, and much more.

Simple Author Highlighter

The Simple Author Highlighter plugin is a nice way to help comments stand out from the crowd.  While basic in form, it allows for the highlighting of certain authorsí comments.  For example, administrators can have their own color associated with their comments, which will let users differentiate comments easier.

If you are reading a comment section and everything is in white with the same font, itís very easy to get lost.  Perhaps you want to see what one specific user has to say.  Doing so would be difficult without any differentiation, and Simple Author Highlighter fixes that problem.  Both the highlight and text color can be changed, and administrators have the ability to apply a global highlight to certain users as well by simply entering their login names.  This functionality is achieved with a very simple installation and little technical knowledge is necessary.

Thank Me Later

One important part of building loyalty to your site is making your visitors feel as if they are a part of something.  An easy way to do this is by acknowledging their presence with the functionality provided by the Thank Me Later WordPress plugin.  With Thank Me Later, visitors will receive an email notification that thanks them for posting a comment on your site.  Itís a quick and easy way to encourage interaction, and it may even work in bring them back to your site once again to read and comment on other posts.

Instead of sending pre-defined, stale thank you messages, Thank Me Later puts you in control of the process.  You can create customized thank you messages that fit the style of your site, and you can even determine when you want those messages to be sent.  These customization options allow your thank you messages to seem more genuine and personal.  Throwing in some recommendations in your messages is a good idea to keep your visitors engaged to your site too.
