Polish is to Shoe, as Detail is to Website - The Layout, The Graphics

The next detail to touch base on is the graphics of your website. This detail goes hand-in-hand with color. Color is used to make the graphics. So keep the color detail in mind when making the graphics, not only for websites, but also for graphic design for posters, ads, and so on.

When I make a website, I find out which colors I should use in my website that will help stimulate the emotion I want. If the website is a hardcore rock band from L.A., I would use dark color to stimulate a scared emotion. Next, I determine what category the website falls under, for example: Professional, Grunge, Burn, Funny, Band, Cartoon, etc. Then I mix the category of the website and the color I chose, and combine the two in the graphics in Photoshop to form the layout of the website.

As I said earlier, I can’t single out any one detail which is the most important. The graphical layout of the website is probably the first thing that stimulates an emotion from your visitor. The emotion could be positive or negative. Maybe it could be scary or cheerful or even funny or stupid. The graphical layout plays a large role, as do the other details. However, the graphical layout catches the first emotion for the visitor.

If your graphical layout loads too slow, that will bring a whole new set of emotions that do not relate to your details; a slow site will usually cancel out any positive emotions in your visitor. So be careful, be safe … load fast!
