What You Need to Know Before Using a CMS - FTP - Getting Files to the Internet
(Page 4 of 5 )

Uploading the files and pages of the CMS package from your computer to your web hosting file system can be accomplished most easily via an FTP software program which allows you to create an open line of communication between your computer and your web hosting file system. Once this connection is open, the software provides an easy to use interface that allows you to move folders and files from one place to another, much like moving files between folders on your computer.

Find the exact phrase for accessing your FTP account in the back office of your web hosting account or in the FTP tutorial provided by your web host. It will look something like this: ftp.yoursite.com See Resources at the end of this article for a tutorial on using FTP.

The other option is to upload files from your web hosting account's upload program. The disadvantage of this method is that you upload one file at a time and you must manually create folders, as it is not possible to upload an entire folder. Since there are hundreds of individual files and folders in a CMS, this option is not the recommended method.

It's not recommended because it's boring, only allows 12 - 16 files to upload per screen, and you are almost guaranteed to fall asleep and miss something. Of course you won't know which file you missed, and you'll have to reload them all to be certain you have that one you didn't get the first time...

Just use the FTP.
