Images are obviously an essential part of most websites, and they can really make a difference when it comes to setting you apart from the competition. The Web is filled jQuery plugins and tutorials that you can use to maximize the appeal of your images. We have listed some of the top jQuery plugins in this department before, but since there are so many that are readily available, here are some more for you to look at.

PHP & jQuery Image Upload and Crop

Placing image uploading and cropping functionality on your site can come in handy in many situations.  As visitors upload images to your site, you can expect better traffic and increased participation.  The possibilities are virtually endless.  This jQuery plugin was created to answer the need for an image upload and crop tool by the authors and the end result is a solid one.  The plugin comes equipped with several options that you can tweak to fit your siteís needs, and it even offers a preview function to make the feature more user-friendly.

S3Slider is a jQuery plugin that is easy to use and gives you flexibility in terms of adding a slideshow to your site.  Slideshows are a good way to have visitors spend time on your site, and S3Sliderís examples are ones that should work on a wide variety of sites.  As for the options, you can have layers featuring descriptions or captions for each image or slide appear at the top or bottom, left or right, or all sides if you feel like switching things up.  The animations produced by the plugin are very smooth and give the slideshows a professional, modern look.

jQuery gzoom

A good way to engage your visitors with images on your site is through a solid zooming function.  If an image has a lot of detail, you may want to allow visitors to take a closer look, and that is where the jQuery gzoom plugin comes into play.  The plugin basically gives you a few different options when it comes to zooming.  You can use a slider to zoom in and out, or you can hover over the image with the mouse cursor and roll your mouse wheel for zooming.  Additional options include the ability to pan the image with the mouse cursor, as well as to show it in an enlarged state by simply clicking on it.

Just as its name suggests, AnythingSlider is a jQuery plugin that offers pretty much anything you would want out of a slider plugin.  The author created it as a comprehensive offering that builds off of and includes features seen in his previous three slider creations: the featured content slider, start/stop slider, and moving boxes slider.

As for the features that come equipped with the AnythingSlider plugin, it allows multiple sliders per page, pause on hover, infinite sliding, optional auto play, slide arrow for next and previous, and the ability to link to specific slides from static text links.  It also offers further customization through the easy addition or removal of slides and slide size adjustment.  Basically, if you want to add a sliding feature to your site but want one that supplies all-in-one functionality, AnythingSlider is a solid choice.

The AnythingZoomer jQuery plugin provides a great effect for a site that likes to showcase images.  If you hover your mouse over an area of an image, that area will be magnified.  The rest of the image, however, will remain normal size.  This is great if you have limited space on a page, want to give visitors the ability to inspect certain parts of images, or if you just want to make your site more visually appealing.  The pluginís author offers several demos on his site to show you the possibilities with the plugin, and extensive documentation is provided as well.

The Gallerific jQuery plugin was tailor made for sites with a lot of photos.  Why?  It can handle high volumes of photos, but more importantly, it can do so while still conserving precious bandwidth.  After all, what good is a site if it looks good but is too slow or acts like a resource hog?

Gallerificís base set of features is impressive and includes support for more than one gallery on the same page, caption support, keyboard navigation, thumbnail navigation, and the list goes on.  Perhaps its best feature is that it lets you add your own custom transition effects for a true personal touch.  Gallerific is rather flexible in its configuration, so you really are not too limited by any constraints.  Itís great for anyone looking to leverage jQueryís power to produce appealing slideshows and more.

Zoomer Gallery

Looking for a plugin to enhance your siteís images thatís easy to use and lightweight?  If so, Zoomer Gallery is a plugin that should be right up your alley.  Zoomer gallery allows you to create interfaces with Flash-like flair by using JavaScript.  You donít need any Flash to gain the results given here, but the effects are pretty much the same as if they were made with it.  As for the results themselves, you get eye-catching galleries that are enhanced by animation effects.  Hovering the mouse cursor over each thumbnail in the gallery causes it to expand in size and essentially pop off the page.  In addition, a caption for the image appears to give everything a more descriptive feel.

jQuery Blinds

Hereís another jQuery plugin that supplies slideshow functionality.  Its most impressive feature is its animation, as the transition from slide to slide is as smooth as can be.  It works across the most popular browsers and also allows you to include more than one slideshow on a page.  Another interesting note about jQuery Blinds is that the plugin uses sprites for optimal performance.  As mentioned before, a slideshow may look good, but if it offers poor performance, you are better off looking at another solution.
