Drupal SEO Friend

As its name would suggest, the Drupal SEO Friend module works alongside other modules as a complement.  It also acts as your virtual SEO ďfriendĒ to help you boost your siteís rankings.  Itís not meant to be a standalone tool, and it wonít replace the functionality youíll receive from modules such as SEO Checklist and SEO Compliance Checker.

What Drupal SEO Friend does do is offer handy reporting.  Use it to generate reports on meta tags for all nodes and paths to view occurrences of duplicate content.  It will also offer similar reporting for your page titles.  Want to see a summary of your referrers?  Check out the referrer report feature.  Drupal SEO friend also comes equipped with several settings features.  You can set rules for nodewords and page titles in terms of min/max characters, min/max words, and more.

XML Sitemap

A sitemap gives search engine crawlers an overview of your siteís overall structure.  Submitting a sitemap to the top search engines should be an SEO priority, as it allows your site to get indexed faster so that it will appear in search engine results.  The XML Sitemap module handles the task of creating a sitemap that is in compliance with the sitemaps.org specification.  Once the sitemap is created, it can then be submitted to major search engines such as Ask, Bing, Google, and Yahoo.  In addition to its main function, XML Sitemap also comes equipped with a bevy of submodules that offer the ability to add sitemap links for content, taxonomy terms, menu items, and even user profiles.

Content Optimizer

The Content Optimizer module is a great tool to have.  It does not matter if you have a little experience under your belt or are a true beginner, the module will automatically check your content to make sure that it follows Drupalís SEO best practices.  SEO isnít exactly the simplest task in the world, so having a tool that will keep you in line is a definite time saver.

Youíll need the Content Analysis module for Content Optimizer to function properly.  Once everything is installed, you can analyze any page on your Drupal site.  Youíll get in-depth analysis of your content, with statistics generated for keyword density, keyword prominence, word count, keyword count, and more.  The module will compare your statistics to SEO guidelines and best practices to give you recommendations on how to truly optimize your content to get the best rankings possible.  For best results, you can combine Content Optimizer with other modules, such as Page Title and Nodewords.

Page Title

Page titles are an essential element to good SEO.  Your page title sits within the HTML <title> tag and is used on search engine results pages, or SERPs.  The better your page title, the bigger the SEO boost.  The Page Title module for Drupal gives you granular control over your page titles.  It takes the task of changing your siteís page titles and simplifies it to a matter of clicks.

With the module, you can specify page titles from content titles on content creation pages and set patterns for how you want your titles to be structured.  The latest version of Page Title offers several updated features.  Thereís Token and Views integration, pagination suffix, support for user profile and forum root contexts, plus much more.  Page Title also works with other popular modules like Content Optimizer and SEO friend to help maximize your SEO efforts.

Nodewords

Meta tags are important to SEO because they give users relevant descriptions that tell what your site is about.  If a user is enticed by such a description, they will be more likely to visit your site than skip over it.  The Nodewords module gives you the power to add meta tags to your Drupal pages on a manual or automatic basis.  Such control takes a lot of the legwork out of handling meta tags so that you have an easier time in improving your positioning on search engines.  It should be noted that Nodewords will not be supported in Drupal 7.  The Metatags module will replace it specifically for Drupal 7, but will not be backwards-compatible, so keep that in mind when preparing to install either of the modules.

Google Analytics

The name of this Drupal module is rather self-explanatory.  Google Analytics is an essential tracking tool for your website, and this module adds it with relative ease.  You just need to have your Google Analytics account number handy.  After itís installed, you can enjoy statistical tracking that includes support for custom variables with tokens, AdSense support, custom code snippets, and much more.
